This summer, the young sailors of the Barrie Yacht Club (BYC) showed courage, determination, and contagious passion on Ontario’s waterways. Between intense regattas, travel across the province, and early morning training sessions, the 2025 season was full of learning moments and unforgettable experiences for Aaron, Elliot, Thomas, Brodie, Owen, Adam, Cooper, Joelle, Celeste, Sebastian, Max and Jack.

For each of them, sailing represents something unique: adrenaline and the thrill of victory for Aaron, relaxation and friendship for Elliot, technical challenges and travel for Thomas, and the joy of sailing as a team for Brodie.

Every regatta offered an opportunity to grow—precision adjustments, strategies for strong winds, managing the unexpected, and above all, the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. As Brodie put it: “Even if I didn’t feel like going, once I’m on the water, I always have fun.”

The BYC Youth Race Team competed in six major regattas across Ontario: Oakville Yacht Squadron, Royal Hamilton Yacht Club, Steers & 4 Sisters at Port Credit Yacht Club, Mid-Ontario Regatta, and the Canadian Olympic Regatta in Kingston (CORK). The results were impressive, with several podium finishes.

  • Aaron and Elliot consistently placed among the top competitors, even bringing home two regatta wins.
  • Thomas and Sebastian secured 2nd place at the Grand Prix and a top-20 result at CORK.
  • Brodie and Owen earned three 2nd-place finishes, a remarkable achievement for their first season of racing.

During the Steers & 4 Sisters regatta, the team’s hard work and determination were recognized with the Ethel Thayer Cottage Cup, an award celebrating excellence in youth sailing among small clubs.

Despite being a smaller club with limited resources, these young sailors proved that with passion, teamwork, and perseverance, great things can be accomplished. The BYC Youth Race Team’s 2025 season will long be remembered for its technical progress, strong friendships, and unforgettable moments on the water.

Congratulations to the BYC Youth Sailing Team — you have made your club and community proud!
